Climate risk analysis for a dairy farm
SEAOAK was engaged by a dairy farm in Northeast Victoria to conduct a climate risk analysis and nature-based solutions roadmap.

What we did
Being so reliant on the environment, the agriculture industry is highly vulnerable to the impacts of seasonal weather extremes and long-term climatic projections. Primary producers are also highly impacted by consumer trends and regulatory changes demanding more sustainable products and land management practices.

The SEAOAK team conducted a climate risk analysis for a dairy farm in Northeast Victoria to help them understand the short and long-term climate-related risks facing their land and agribusiness. The analysis predominantly focused on physical risks (i.e. bushfire, drought, weather extremes) and transition risks (net zero targets, clean energy transition) for their farm.
The team also provided recommendations for various Nature-based Solutions (NbS) the farm could implement to help mitigate risk, diversify revenue streams, and build resilience.

Project outcomes
One of the recommendations from this analysis was to establish a 250+ acre carbon forest on previously pine planted and unproductive agricultural land. The team have since conducted a follow-up economic analysis to understand the viability of this project and provide the farmer with data that would aid their decision making.
