Establishing Australia's first LENs region in the
NSW Hunter & Mid North Coast

LENs is a collaborative, market driven nature-based solutions co-investment model that is already successfully operating across 12 European regions including Ireland, Spey, West Wales, Italy, East of England, Leven, Borders, Yorkshire, Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Hungary.
LENs connects organisations with a material interest in the health of a landscape (including supply chain companies, utilities, government bodies and industry organisations) to co-fund producers to implement verified, on-farm land management practices that help to improve the resilience of entire landscapes. Producers are paid directly upon completion of agreed measures, with outcomes independently verified and reported annually through LENs' robust Measurement, Reporting & Verification (MRV) system.
Australia’s first LENs region is currently being established in the NSW Hunter and Mid North Coast, supported by a Low Carbon Landscapes Grant through the NSW Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).
Target outcomes for the Hunter LENs region:
-
80,000 hectares of land
-
500,000 tonnes of carbon abatement
-
Co-benefits across water quality, soil health, biodiversity, and farmer wellbeing
-
National blueprint for scaling LENs across other agricultural landscapes and regions in Australia
