Sustainability strategy for a sand extraction company

SEAOAK was engaged by a sand extraction and mining company in NSW to develop a sustainability strategy that focused on environmental stewardship and indigenous partnerships / impact.

Sand Dunes

What we did

We developed a sustainability strategy that tied together existing initiatives and identified areas for improvement. We worked with the sand extraction management team to map out current state and establish goals and metrics under each of their sustainability pillars - economic resilience, environmental stewardship, and community impact. The strategy had a focus on relationships and partnerships with local indigenous groups.

The strategy aligned with Australian regulatory requirements for the extraction industry and incorporated global frameworks including United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG's) and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards for the mining industry.

Project outcomes
Outcome 1: The business has a streamlined method for measuring progress and tracking sustainability goals over time, also resulting in a more meaningful way of telling their story to upstream supply chain partners.

Outcome 2: The public strategy â€‹demonstrates an ongoing commitment to sustainability, making them more attractive to financial institutions and upstream supply chain partners. Transparency is improved for the business, also resulting in more trust.

Outcome 3: By demonstrating what good looks like, the business hopes to encourage other extraction businesses to follow in their footsteps and improve outcomes for the whole industry.
